I upgraded my Printrbot Simple Metal with Bigtreetech's SKR Mini E3 1.2 board, a significant upgrade that required some creative problem-solving. To mount the new board to the underside of my Printrbot, I fabricated an adapter plate that provides a secure connection and also accommodates an optocoupler, allowing me to utilize the original inductive probe. The small holes on the plate are designed for #4 x 3/8 sheet metal screws, ensuring a sturdy attachment. Space is limited under the Printrbot, so I purchased a microSD to SD card extension cable from Amazon for seven dollars. Although I don't print directly from the SD card, it proved to be a handy tool during firmware updates. The SKR 1.2 board has five holes, but I only utilized four of them due to overlap with one of the Printrbot's four holes. I've since added some photos to this post, showcasing the extension cable and optocoupler I purchased on Amazon. Additionally, I included a picture of how the extension comes out from under the front of my Printrbot. To ensure clearance for the extension's ribbon cable, I printed custom feet (Thing # 543482) that provide just enough space for the cable to sit flat.
