Printrbot Simple Direct Drive Bowden conversion
thingiverse
Enhancements available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:305215, this design enables the conversion of a non-aluminum PrintrBot Simple to utilize a Bowden tube without altering the Simple itself. The motor and extruder are affixed on the Z-axis support bars. All parts are created for compatibility with the Simple's printing capacity. In version 2, the extruder and extruder model support were redesigned to allow the unit to rotate, alleviating Bowden tube pressure as it bends, necessitating a shorter tube (less than a foot). The extruder fitting is an adaptation of rswarner's Internal Filament Guide for Printrbot Direct Drive Extruder. The hotend fitting was adapted from one of owens' Printrbot Simple Bowden Conversion fittings to fit the new extruder location. To print, prepare a single component (except flat disks needing two each). The hotend block screws into existing Y-axis arm holes and is secured using new screws. The printed fan mount utilizes one hotend block attachment screw. The extruder fitting replaces the tube and wooden part in the original extruder assembly. The push fits into the hotend block and extruder fitting. The new extruder support requires 2 flat disks and a support to accommodate Y-axis arm movement. The disks align with the hole, and the extruder assembly is attached to the motor using screws through the disks. The hotend block has a cable wrap hole and an additional screw hole for initial firmness adjustments (if necessary). Additional components include 2 M3 bolts with nuts for hotend attachment, 4mm outer/2mm inner PTFE tube, and self-threading push fittings.
