Printrbot Simple 2014 Print and System Cooling

We have designed a mounting bracket and shroud for an 80mm fan to cool the Printrbot Simple 2014 extruder motor. This will solve the problem of having soft PLA filament getting jammed in-between the extruder gear and the alu-extruder due to excessive heat from the extruder motor. The extruder cooling system consists of 3 parts (the shroud, the shroud bracket, and the fan bracket). First install the shroud bracket around the alu-extuder. It snap fits on to the surrounding wood support and uses one of the existing bolts on the back (it is a tight fit so install slowly with some pressure required). Next, click the shroud onto the bracket and secure with an optional small screw (the tabs on the shroud bracket may need to be gently squeezed together in order to click the shroud on). Lastly, install an 80mm fan onto the back of the shroud and attach the fan bracket to the top back screw on the fan. Secure the bracket to your Simple using the existing bolt on top of the wooden extruder mount. We found a 12V 80mm fan that only drew 200 mA so we tied it into the existing 40mm print cooling fan connection. We also designed a matching and (we believe) more effective print cooling fan shroud. It is a straight replacement for the factor cooling shroud just be sure to tap the 4 mounting holes using the bolts before installing because the fit is a little tight. All other parts do not require support. We printed at standard quality (0.2mm layer, 15% infill) and are happy with the results. See the installation instructions in the description.
