Printrbot Simple 1405 "TRI ROD MOD" with or without XL tower upgrade (first 1405 XL tower)
thingiverse
This mod adds three linear rods in both the Y and Z axes, significantly reducing twisting issues that arise, especially when paired with an extended Y mod. This custom modification is built on top of Jon Lawrence's popular 300mm no sag mod. Furthermore, it incorporates elements from several other notable projects in this community. Details on these additional contributions can be found in the remixed content section. UPDATE (12/13/2014): Upon testing and printing the "TRI_ROD_MOD_TOP1_XL", an issue with compatibility arose due to discrepancies in models for XL wood parts. Following meticulous measurements of actual wooden XL parts, these models were redesigned for correct fitment. Additionally, this part was reinforced for added durability. UPDATE (2/13/2015): To cater to users who might prefer or require non-XL versions, a separate step file was uploaded featuring the modified parts without the need for XL wood pieces. This addition ensures easier importing using software like FreeCad. Notably, STL files for the largest components were also made available for added convenience. P.S.: As time allows, an exhaustive hardware list will be developed to assist users in understanding and replicating this project effectively. This mod will also serve as a stepping stone for integrating similar functionality into Jon Lawrence's 'JONbot', aiming for enhanced usability. Since compatibility with previous versions of TRI_ROD_MOD will be maintained. P.P.S.: Efforts are underway to craft an innovative variant that fully integrates this modification within the confines of the "JONbot" framework, potentially eliminating wooden components in favor of all-printable materials. Development is progressing rapidly; however, please note that this iteration won't share any common elements with previous TRI_ROD_MOD builds. UPDATE (FEB/15/2015): After further refinement and adjustments, large printable parts have been adapted to accommodate smaller print areas – specifically 100 x 100 dimensions – ensuring wider applicability. To this end, updated STEP files containing optimized models suitable for these smaller printing options are now available along with STL files for easy processing. Eventually, instructions detailing assembly procedures will be outlined in this space. Should you desire to enhance or customize TRI_ROD_MOD further, I've made available a step file (in the STEP format) containing all elements – wooden models included. To take this modification a step further, use of my provided parametric model (.x_t extension) can assist with customization, featuring detailed designs for both "aluminum" extruders and Ubitend parts within a first 1405 XL tower setup.
