The Printrbot 1405 often experiences excessive heat within the first two hours of continuous printing and consequently warps the filament as it becomes entangled between the direct drive system and the extruder unit. Its lack of power capacity makes installing an upgraded fan a challenge that demands a supplementary source of energy. I personally mitigated this problem by mounting a heatsink taken from a retired computer onto the stepper motor of the extruder and applying thermal paste to the assembly. This modification enabled me to carry out extended printing sessions as required. This guide is designed to provide guidance on how to prevent filament tangling within the vicinity of the heatsink and serve as an intermediate filtration mechanism that can assist in clearing clogs within the extruder. Simply add sponge pieces treated with a few drops of vegetable oil into the filtration chamber for added support.
