I recently upgraded my Printrbot Simple Metal with a heated bed, giving it an entirely new appearance now that I've attached an unattractive ATX PSU. Considering the hefty price tag of the $60 Metal Power Tower from Printrbot, I searched for an alternative solution to conceal the PSU and store a reel of filament on top - ideally rolling freely with the aid of bearing or metal rods. To align my design with my existing black Printrbot, I intend to acquire some matching black plexiglass. Every part shown in white will be printed by me using 3D printing technology. If required, I might need to add extra internal supports for the PSU itself; this is contingent on how the project unfolds. UPDATE: June 6th, 2015 - Commencing print parts and attaching plexiglass components together as I update my visuals as well. Directions Holes within brackets are designed for 4-40 screws. I plan to use 1/8" thick plexi glass coupled with 1/2" diameter screws. Two larger holes in each filament holder measure exactly 9mm, intended for accommodating rods that will facilitate smooth rolling movement for the filament reel.
