This filament holder is specifically designed for the Printrbot Metal Plus, drawing inspiration and modifications from Lulzbot Mini's filament holder. Lulzbot is a company that truly values open source principles, making all of their printer hardware freely available to everyone. The original design for this filament stand calls for a fitting to be pressed into the filament stand, which requires ABS material, as well as M6 screws to hold the filament arm in place. However, the modifications made to this design allow for PLA printing without any additional hardware purchases necessary. Print Settings Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer: Printrbot Plus Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: .3 Infill: 25% Notes: There are a few notable changes made to the original Lulzbot design. I have rounded the filament arm to ensure that it turns smoothly with the filament spool. Additionally, I've added a lip under the front corner to allow the holder to securely grip the frame of the printer. In place of screws and bolts, I've used pins and epoxy for assembly. Furthermore, I've incorporated a hinge held together by a short piece of 1.75mm filament, adding an anchor point using an existing screw from the printer for stability. Print with supports touching the build plate. This holder uses the existing Printrbot screw as its anchor point, along with a small piece of 1.75mm filament in the hinge. The two pins printed with this model are securely glued into place to hold the part together. Post-Printing Step 1: Clean up the print, making sure to remove any debris from the holes or mating surfaces. Be sure to clean the bottom of the filament stand where the supports were supporting the hinge. You may also need to use a drill bit to ensure that the hinge fits properly. Step 2: Fit some filament through the hinge parts and trim off the ends so it doesn't stick out. Step 3: Test fit the pins into the filament arm and the filament stand, then mix up some epoxy to coat the inside of the holes in the stand and the bottom half of the pins. Assemble everything together and let it sit overnight. Step 4: Assemble on printer, possibly moving a screw from the top of the printer to the side if necessary. Rejoice!
