After upgrading my Printrbot Metal Plus with a Corsair CX430 ATX power supply, I was determined to find a space-saving solution for mounting it, as attaching anything to the sides was completely out of the question. My goal was to mount the power supply to the top and utilize existing Printrbot mounting locations. I spent hours searching for printable .stl files, but every design I found required an 8-hour print or longer, which wasn't acceptable given my desire for something strong yet reasonably printed. Consequently, I decided to design the part myself. My first step was researching ATX power supply dimensions, where I discovered the NEMA specifications – the standard by which they are manufactured. Armed with this information, I designed the bracket in Solidworks. The top pattern is based on the 64mm wide NEMA dimension, utilizing 6-32 SHCS, while the bottom pattern is aligned with the Printrbot's 19mm wide design using M3 SHCS. The vertical clearance between these dimensions accommodates button head machine screws for the power supply. To secure the bracket, I replaced the original Printrbot M3-0.5 x 6mm long socket head cap screws with longer M3-0.5 x 10 mm long socket head cap screws through the counterbored holes on the printed bracket's narrow bolt pattern. Meanwhile, on top (wide pattern), I installed 6-32 x 3/8" SHCS. Mounting the power supply to the printer's top required extending the "6-Pin PCI-E" cable using a heavy-duty "6-Pin PCI-E Extension Cable." This particular extension was 45 cm or approximately 18" long, allowing it to hang down on the back of the printer frame and curl under the moving printing plate towards the bottom, where it securely plugs into the Printrboard.
