PrintRbot Laser Mount

PrintRbot Laser Mount

This attachment fits most standard Greg's Printrbot setups, but isn't designed for permanent use. It easily snaps onto and off of Eddiema's Printrbot fan mount. The intended purpose is for a heat resistant case with two screw mounts on either end. A 99% scale model can match the size of a laser housing. However, the fan vibration may cause the focus lens to fall out due to its design. An add-on end cap has been created to contain the lens and maintain focus at about 1.5 inches. This setup keeps the assembly away from smoke and provides adequate clearance for the fan. The fan can also be used for photo sintering or signing plastic prints when controlled through optocoupler, TTL, and Gcode power control. An engraver attachment is available here, while a Z end stop extender can be found here. Unfortunately, the control interface isn't complete yet, only allowing on/off functionality with power. The laser mark is .1mm wide at 1mm/s on wood, and two passes may improve its appearance. The Printrbot laser mount, engraver mount, marker mount, and Z end stop extender can all be found on Thingiverse, while discussions about this project can be found here. Development has slowed for a few weeks as the TTL controller's printed circuit board is being designed. To lift the laser out of focus range and back in, use 20cm (recommended speed: 1mm/s at fastest, 2 passes if possible).
