To overcome issues with jams, I implemented a filament guide modification that also incorporated a 12V fan (with hole pattern matching the stepper motor) to counter heat creep. The fan is powered by an unused ATX supply socket, and a switch was added for control; this switch required drilling new holes as it was an afterthought addition.
