PrintrBase - ATX Power Supply Base for PrintrBot Simple Metal
thingiverse
Two-part case designed specifically for holding an ATX power supply in a PrintrBot Simple Metal with Heated Bed setup. This compact design fits perfectly within the build envelope of the PrintrBot Simple Metal, each piece snugly nestled within its 150x150x150 dimensions. Initially, the modification required adjusting the wiring on the ATX case so that it exited from one end rather than from the opposite side where the power connector resides. With limited space between the wall and back of the supply, this adjustment proved crucial for accommodating the design requirements. To further stabilize the setup, a ridge was integrated onto the top of the base to prevent the PrintrBot from sliding off its designated slot. For additional security, large tie-wraps were threaded through vent holes and securely fastened over the PrintrBot base, firmly bonding the PrintrBase and PrintrBot together. The front portion of the PrintrBot protrudes slightly beyond the end of the PrintrBase. This deliberate design choice grants direct access to the reset button whenever it is needed. Notably, a small opening was drilled into the front for accommodating a power switch; however, my ATX supply did not require this feature. Post-modification, this compact case fit comfortably within the small power supply in use at that time. Nevertheless, for larger power supplies, an alternative 4-piece design, identified as thing #684427, can accommodate their unique dimensions.
