I'm excited to share my first contribution here, and I'm not entirely sure if this will work yet! Mainly, I wanted to post it to get some feedback from you all. I think the Slack Lack enclosure is fantastic - haven't built all of it, but I'm really looking forward to getting it together. One thing that a few people had trouble with are the hinges. Me included. Especially the ones with the long pins. I started thinking how great it would be to have a print in place hinge that's anchored at both the top and bottom, giving it much more strength. Edit 4/23/20: ========== I added the top hinges without washers. I was also able to do the bottom hinges without washers too. The tolerance is really tight, and sometimes takes quite a bit of persuasion to get the hings to break loose and actually function. Might need to experiment with the printer settings or if you're really desperate, read on and make the ones with washers. Edit 4/24/20: ========== Started building the enclosure and found that I got the bottom hinges wrong. I updated the STL files to the correct design. Hope nobody started printing them yet! Hinges with washers: ================ I've done print in place hinges in PLA, but never PETG before. The PETG I have needs to be printed at 240c (at least that's the only way I've been able to get good layer adhesion). The problem is, when it comes to the top and bottom of the hinge, even if you have a good amount of clearance, the layers fuse together and the hinge becomes locked. I tried several times with different clearances before I came up with the idea to put a washer on the top and bottom. Since I'm new to 3D printing, it took me a while to figure out how to pause the print and insert the washer, but the result seems to work so far! I'll edit once I actually build the enclosure. One picture shows all my attempts to get the clearance right. The way it is right now, it's slightly loose, so I might try to tighten it up a bit. Just figured out how to mirror a component in Fusion 360. I think the hinge on the other side is just a mirror of the one I modified. I haven't printed the mirrored one yet, but I thought I'd include it just so both would be available.
