To enhance my MakerBot's extrusion reliability, I decided to print a custom extruder inspired by the RepRap project's "Thermoplast Extruder Version 2.0" and Nophead's "Fast Extruder." (Update: A fourth part, InsulatorRetainer.stl, is now available.) For detailed build instructions, visit http://wiki.makerbot.com/makerbot-127. In addition to the 3 printed parts, you'll require two 626 ball bearings, four M4 bolts (60mm long), four M4 nuts (optional two as wingnuts), one M6 bolt (30mm long), one M6 nut, three M3 bolts (30mm long), three or more M6 washers, three or better more M3 washers, and four M4 washers. Also, obtain components from your current MK3 Plastruder: a 37mm DC motor with pulley, the "heater section" (thermal barrier, heater barrel, nozzle, etc.), and big and small dinos for mounting in a MakerBot. Lastly, install extruder driver electronics.
