Printed Dual Extruder Holder and Wider Effector Platform for Rostock Max V2
thingiverse
This is a functional dual extruder hotend and effector platform upgrade for the Rostock Max V2. The target was to mount two E3D V6 hotends in the original above-the-platform position by creating a new effector platform with a wider center opening. While it is possible to build this tool platform as designed, running the wires poses a very tight challenge and the force from the cables has a tendency to twist the heater blocks, loosening the heat break and causing potential failures. The platform assembles in the same manner as an under-mount configuration, and the images shown here are of the dual extruder in operation there. This is an ongoing project, and revisions will need to address either the fit of the hot ends or else make modifications to take full advantage of the extra space from being mounted below the effector platform. It's worth noting that both metric and imperial hardware is used since the Rostock was built primarily to imperial units but the arm joints are metric in design. The rod for the arm connections is M3; either a smooth M3 rod for the standard arms or a threaded M3 rod for the TrickLaser carbon fiber arms, as pictured. The screws securing the rod to the effector platform are 4-40. The upright screws connecting the effector platform are 6-32.
