PrintDry vertical conversion OR turn a food dehydrator into a filament dryer
cults3d
2 possible uses: 1) convert the original PrintDry into a PrintDry 2.0 vertical-style OR 2) convert a food dehydrator into a filament dryer Note: It's 35cm long so you'll need a large print bed. I rotated it 45 degrees to print on my Taz 6. Background: I like my PrintDry but found the filament often didn't feed smoothly and would catch, causing the dryer to come apart. I wanted to buy a PrintDry 2.0 as the filament rolls could hang vertically, but didn't want to spend the money. Main support piece: You can mount 1 or 2 rolls of filament on the main support. Clips: The clips are optional and stop the filament from moving around. The clips will be especially important if you have trouble with the top of the filament reel knocking against the lid. There is a little groove in the lid which the top of the filament reel can fit into, if you position it correctly. The clips aid in this. You'll need to apply some force to get the clips on. Once they are on, they should hold their position tightly and not slide around. Hardware: If you're starting with a PrintDry, you'll need to unscrew the unnecessary hardware. As per the photo, you only need to leave the round white cap. Food dehydrator conversion: The main part is 35cm long which fits the inner diameter of my PrintDry. The main part sits on the inner ledge. If you're using these files to convert a food dehydrator, you'll have to measure the inside diameter to determine if you need to scale the parts accordingly. You'll also need to drill 1 or 2 holes for the filament to exit the dehydrator.
