Printable X/Y Linear Rail

thingiverse

Introducing the fifth version of my printable linear rail system, which now works correctly and can replace a 3D printer's X or Y axis. The rail system connects to form any needed length. This machine will be an entry for the Gada prize. An update from June 16, 2011, includes modifications to the shuttle, removing several nuts, bolts, and washers. Future changes involve replacing front hardware with printed parts, using just a motor and printed components. The large helical gear now incorporates an embedded 608 bearing, held in place by a printed bolt. The shuttle top has four mounting holes, with two securing the motor at present. Two new 3-segment rails and a redesigned lower half of the shuttle for printing have been added. A video of the x/y gantry system is also available. A reminder that the rack file was missing, which has now been uploaded. Instructions for assembly are provided, requiring at least two rail segments, with tolerances needing adjustment if necessary. A PDF guide with images is in progress. For the shuttle, additional hardware includes a 30mm bolt, nuts, washers, 608 bearings, a NEMA 17 stepper motor, and M3 bolts and a nut.
