Pressure meters rely on a fundamental hydraulic equation P=ρgh. This formula calculates the force exerted by a liquid column as the product of its density, gravity, and height. The standard unit for measurement is centimeters of water (H2O). According to Newton's action-reaction principle, pressure above a body of water equals pressure at its base. Consequently, the height of the liquid column directly corresponds to the pressure measured in cm H2O.
