**READ Full Description & Warning at Bottom Before Attempting to Use*** BE SAFE USE CLIMBING RATED SAFETY DEVICES AT ALL TIMES, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU ATTEMPT TO USE THIS PRINT WITHOUT AS IT IS A CLIMBING DEVICE THAT HAS NOT BEEN TESTED!!! CREDIT for IDEA - Simple Tree Step (Attempting to create a printable version of a popular tree climbing device - Design Challenge if anyone else wants to try their hand- Ie. see "Tree Stepp" by Wild Edge Inc., probably best tree ascent steps I've used, worth every penny, is this doesn't pan out) I have not tested these yet, it's the first round so I assume there will be iterations but here goes. ALSO I have attached the SW files (I don't normally do this but it provides everyone a better chance to modify) for anyone wanting to play with the design, I only ask that you post as a remix if you make mods so everyone can see and comment. I'm trying to get a product that everyone can print cheap and is sound enough to use. Design is built around a metal u-bolt and 1/4-20 bolt as the structural supports, I believe they are key to making this usable. Plastic itself may or may not hold up under load. I'm hoping that the added metal structure will reinforce it to a usable level. **NOTE - NOWHERE DO I STATE THIS IS SAFE AND TESTED! THIS IS FIRST ROUND AND I'M POSTING FOR PEOPLE TO GIVE INPUT AND TRY AT THEIR OWN PERIL TO GIVE INPUT** Hardware used is minimal 7 inexpensive, (1) u-bolt with 3/8" Flng nuts & (1) 1/4-20 bolt with matching Flng nut. This hardware is available everywhere and most of the time a lot cheaper, but McMaster gives a print to reference and SW models so I linked there. U-bolt size - https://www.mcmaster.com/3060t51 1/4" bolt - https://www.mcmaster.com/92620a559 Instructions: Print (I'm going to try tread down on the bed first to give longest continuous strand on outside surface matching the u-bolt, let me know if something else works better). Insert bolt and tighten nut snug but DO NOT CRUSH PRINT, insert u-bolt into slot, should be tight with top of bolt head, Debating adding some JB Weld? again tighten snug but DO NOT CRUSH PRINT. To install you will need some Climbing rated rope or heavy duty webbing straps to be safe (use common sense - DO NOT USE DOLLAR STORE ROPE). Video below shows how Org. steel version of this idea is attached. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XtkqAfrdpo WARNING**** This has not been tested or even printed yet, It's the first version, I'm in process of determining if this is viable. DO NOT print or try anything without proper safety equipment! IE..Harness and the like. Be prepared in case of failure. DO NOT USE BY YOURSELF UNTIL TESTED AND SATISFIED IT WILL BE STRUCTURALLY SOUND - THIS IS ON YOU TO DETERMINE. NOT all printers have good layer adhesion, separation may occur in this case and fail. Always check all parts for defects. If you are tempting fate and would like to test this I encourage you to do so very close to the ground until structure can be vetted. BE SAFE, BE SAFE, BE SAFE
