printable T profile belt with soft PLA
thingiverse
Experimenting with soft PLA's feed and flow rate on a Mendel RepRap led to discovering an ideal printing profile - slow but strong. For amusement, the user copied a part of their belt's design using light grey soft PLA. OpenSCAD proved useful for creating single patterns of one tooth and gap, which were then replicated 20 times. The result was striking when compared to the original belt. Next, an endless belt was designed in OpenSCAD, requiring minor tweaks to the Skeinforge profile. With a length of approximately 380mm, the belt fit well on assembled Mendel parts. Although not comparable to traditional reprap belts, soft PLA's belt demonstrated impressive resistance and elasticity, stretching 2mm (0.5%) before breaking.
