Printable Prop Saver for Quad Copter
thingiverse
Tired of damaging props on my quad copter due to indoor flying in bad weather, I designed a prop saver. Although it successfully allows my quadcopter to fly with attached prop savers, I haven't conducted a crash test yet. If someone prints these and crashes, please share the results! These prop savers are specifically tailored for this motor: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=12916. They might require minor adjustments on other motors - your mileage may vary. The required parts per motor include 1 printed prop saver, 2 M3 or SAE #6 machine screws (20mm-25mm long), 2 nuts (M3 or SAE #6), and an O-ring with 18mm diameter and 2.3mm thickness. Obtain the O-rings from a real auto parts store to avoid accidents. I printed four at once for my printer that lacks a fan, using black 3mm ABS plastic from protoparadigm. My printing settings were 0.28mm layer height, 0.4mm width (with 0.35mm nozzle), 2 perimeters, and 100% infill. I used Kisslicer but any decent slicing software should work. After installing the prop savers, I've crashed twice and can confirm they functioned as intended, saving my quadcopter and props except for a single broken O-ring. The design has been updated to version 2, making it more robust after one original broke.
