Printable Menger Sponge (4th iteration)
thingiverse
This model is a printable representation of the renowned Menger sponge. The 3D design is iterated up to the fourth level. Printing the Menger sponge is a daunting task due to its numerous overhangs. However, it has been proven that success can be achieved by cutting the sponge in half; therefore, you must print the STL file twice and assemble it together. I've modified my model so only a tiny, almost imperceptible area requires gluing. The model's size is relatively modest: The square's diagonal measures just 9.5cm. Nevertheless, scaling up the design should not be an issue. Nevertheless, printing this model demands significant time. Printing one half at its original scale took approximately 15 hours with a resolution of 200 microns. A fascinating fact about the Menger sponge is that if you continue an infinite iteration sequence, you will end up with a body of zero volume – but the "square's" surface area will be infinite!
