A new caterpillar track design is now printable in one piece! Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nigrV9n9658. The latest version 1.2 features added curve to prevent slipping. The SCAD code may be messy, but the results are promising and have been published ASAP. An idler is required to reduce lateral force in the servo axis, while the chain needs even more curve for better grip. A chassis design is still being worked on. To print the tracks, use Cura (https://github.com/daid/Cura) with a 0.5mm nozzle, and adjust settings as follows: Bottom/Top thickness = 0mm, Wall thickness = 0.5mm, Fill density = 0%, Solid infill top = OFF, Joris the outer edge = ON. These settings produce flexible and resistant single-walled spiral tracks that are easy to print in one piece.
