<p>This is a VERY beta design. I was inspired by a video on YouTube of a guy making a battery out of an aluminum can, copper wire, and salt water. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yA6Jde77UNc">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yA6Jde77UNc</a> As a kid I had made similar batteries using zinc, copper, and salt water.</p> <p>For this you will need:</p> <ol> <li>Copper wire</li> <li>A small sheet of zinc - although you could modify the design and make it work with a galvanized nail (aka zinc coated nail)</li> <li>Bits of wire</li> <li>Salt water</li> <li>Some acetone or ABS glue if you want to seal it</li> <li>A MakerBot that can print water tight objects<br/> My 'bot is out of commission for a few days, so I won't get a chance to try this out for a little while. If you do try, please let me know how the design works for you.</li> </ol> <h3>Print instructions</h3><p>Unassociated tags: printable battery</p> <h3>Instructions</h3> <ol> <li>Print both parts</li> <li>Bend a long piece of copper wire into a small hook at one end and then a thick coil, leaving a long unbent piece at the end</li> <li>Put the hook through the loop in "A" (This is represented by the blue squiggles)</li> <li>Punch a small hole into the sheet of zinc and either bend a piece of wire around it or solder a piece of wire to it (This is represented by the green stuff, with the wire being the purple stuff)</li> <li>Bend a thin sheet of zinc into a cylinder and place it into the groove in "B" </li> <li>Put the long unbent end of the copper wire through the hole in the lid</li> <li>Put the wire from the zinc sheet through the hole in the lid</li> <li>Fill with salt water mixture</li> <li><p>Close the lid on top (and seal with acetone or ABS glue if you like)<br/> Edit:</p> </li> <li><p>A drop of acetone or ABS glue should create a watertight seal around the holes for the anode leads.</p> </li> </ol>
