This printable 3-phase alternator design, created by me, has not been tested yet due to lack of a reprap. Despite its crude appearance, it's expected to generate electricity. More details are available at http://dev.forums.reprap.org/read.php?1,11789,page=1. To create this alternator, you will need: - 8mm threaded rod nuts and washers - Enamel coated copper wire (36 gauge should suffice) - A 608 skate bearing with 8mm ID and 22mm OD ($1.00 at http://www.skates.com/roller-skate-bearings-s/34.htm) - 8 neodymium disc or ring magnets, 9mm in diameter ($5.20 from http://www.supermagnetman.net/product_info.php?cPath=41&products_id=389) - Epoxy or glue - Optional power drill for coil winding You'll find 3 files in the design: the stator (for the coils), the armature (alternator magnet 2), and an optional coil winding tool that connects to a power drill. To assemble, follow these steps: 1. Wind 9 coils using the coil winding tool or by hand, ensuring not to cross wires. Leave some insulation-free wire for connections. 2. Assemble the stator by placing the skate bearing in its hole and securing it with a threaded rod from two side holes. 3. Wind the coils onto the threaded rod through the bearing. Secure with nuts and washers. 4. Wire the coils together as shown in steps 12 and 14 of this tutorial: http://www.instructables.com/id/Pringles-Wind-Turbine-Pleech---Version-One/ or using a wye configuration (http://www.tpub.com/content/neets/14177/css/14177_73.htm). 5. For the armature, place magnets in holes with an n-s-n-s-n-s configuration and glue them with epoxy. 6. Attach the armature to the stator's threaded rod using nuts. Adjust for optimal proximity to coils and free rotation. 7. Consider using this design for wind turbines as well!
