Both of my parents hail from the majestic state of Colorado and have spent a considerable amount of time enjoying its breathtaking landscapes. This unique gift is dedicated to them as a token of appreciation. A Google Map image highlights the approximate location of this stunning print. To generate the printable mesh, I employed Terrain2STL, a brilliant tool courtesy of Thatcher Chamberlin's expertise. The additional refinements were meticulously made in Blender, resulting in a beautifully detailed topographic map. Below are the precise instructions for printing this exceptional model: The printer used is the trusted Makerbot Replicator 1, with the slicing performed utilizing Simplify 3d's capabilities. By carefully butting the two STL files next to each other within Simplify 3d, it auto-booleans them, streamlining the slicing process. Printing settings include an extrusion temperature of 200 degrees, layer adhesion set to Off. A dual-shelled print with a 10% infill percentage was achieved at a resolution of 200 microns. Print speed stood at 120mm/sec while travel speed reached 200mm/sec. Finishing touches were added using two-tone colors applied through Rustoleum spray paint, resulting in an exquisite finish that enhances the beauty of this remarkable topographic print.
