Print Kit Infill and Shells
thingiverse
Students get a hands-on experience with Print Kits that feature gears with infills and shells, giving them a tangible understanding of their mechanical properties as they explore each component thoroughly. To successfully print the kit, each gear must be printed individually using specific infill and shell settings. The number on top of each gear indicates the desired shell quantity. For instance, I chose 10% infill for gears with 2, 6, and 10 shells, but students can experiment with different combinations to create more complex designs. One effective way to utilize this kit is by turning it into a Design Challenge. Ask students to design and print gears with unique infill patterns and shell configurations, then have them present their creations to the class. As a fun twist, challenge other students to guess the exact infill and shell settings used in each gear. This Print Kit was created using Tinkercad, an online 3D modeling tool that allows users to edit and refine their designs in real-time.
