print-in-place ratchet (aka tuning peg for .strandberg* guitars)
thingiverse
A case-study I made in order to see if it's possible to print a ratchet mechanism in place. It's designed in a way that the elephants foot issue shouldn't be a problem (it has large chamfers on the bottom side). While it was intended as a joke to tune strandberg guitars it turned out to actually work and can come in handy for re-stringing their guitars. The mechanism itself works great and has a nice feel to it. The design is made to accept the printed hex insert (width is 6mm). It has some play so you can either glue both parts together of wrap some tape around the hex insert to allow a tight fit. Print info: - No support - I used 4 wall lines - Infill about 30-40% - Layer height 0.2 mm - 0.4 mm nozzle - The hex insert laying flat (so it has a strong layer direction for its use-case) - The ratchet mechanism standing with the hex-hole facing upwards - You might want to check the slicers preview and make sure that the first layer consists of two circles (one filled) with a distance between them. If that's not the case you might want to check your "horizontal expansion" setting If you have a belt driven printer make sure the belts aren't loose. There will be quite some vibration when printing the knurling pattern. *Use it at your own risk!* I used PLA - printed on an Ender3 V2. Please let me know if you printed it and share your makes and comment! (I will not publish the original design files as it was a lot of work and I publish the stl-files so you can maybe learn from my design)
