Print from dry box for QIDI X-Max
thingiverse
This is just a simple stand I designed for the QIDI Max printers to be able to print directly from filament dry boxes. My printer is the Max II so it came with a filament breakage sensor, which the stand straddles and is held centered. If you have the original Max, you can still use the stand, but it may slide a little left and right. Breakage sensors can be ordered from QIDI for about $30 if you want to upgrade with this feature. Print one of each part, then screw 'em all together. Inspiration for using these food storage containers as dry boxes came from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/p0s7b4/upgraded_my_filament_storage_to_include/ To cut the hole in the dry box lid, I purchased a 12mm leather hole punch and used a drill press to drive it through the lid, but you could probably just hammer it through if you don't have a press. Drilling a hole this big in thin plastic is not advised as there is a likelihood of tearing the cover. Ask me how I know. I used a tiny amount of silicone caulking as sealant around the hole before adding the fitting. About 370mm of tubing is used between the box and stand, plus a small bit of tubing on the inside the fitting on the inside of the dry boxes so the filament has a smooth path completely through the dry box fitting. There wasn't enough threads on the fitting to engage with the nylon in the locknut, so I could have just used standard nuts instead.) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075ZZRGJD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 PTFE tubing https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CUPV9KC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 12mm leather hole punch https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BGFHV4S2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 I considered rollers inside the boxes to hold the spools, but opted against it since the poly box is slippery enough to allow the spools to spin just fine.
