The first week of April 2018 was a bleak week for all anime enthusiasts. Two premature disappearances brought sorrow to that spring. The death of Nolife, the world's only channel outside Japan truly showcasing Japanese culture and of course Isao Takahata's disappearance saddened me. I also wanted to pay my respects but needed to find a character that marked his career. The story of Princess Kaguya was his last realization and the last one I saw, and for me it echoes one of his first works, Heidi, which was one of my first anime seen on TV. It was at the end of the 1970s, I must have been three years old. Without knowing it, his realizations crossed my life just like Miyazaki's did. Takahata-san, you the great pacifist, now you've joined your princess in the clouds, what will become of the world without you?
