Decorative brass tins are sent by Princess Mary to British, Colonial, and Indian Armed Forces members for Christmas 1914. Over 426,000 of these tins are distributed to those serving on Christmas Day 1914. The tins contain tobacco, confectionary, spices, pencils, a Christmas card, and a princess picture. Princess Mary's idea is the initiative behind this gift-giving effort. As King George V's 17-year-old daughter, Princess Mary organizes a public appeal that raises funds to ensure every sailor at sea and soldier at the front receives a Christmas present. Strong public support for the gift leads to £162,591 12s 5d raised, making eligibility widen to include everyone wearing the King's uniform on Christmas Day 1914 - approximately 2,620,019 servicemen and women. This decorative brass tin is part of "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative by MyMiniFactory that creates a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks worldwide for public access at no cost. "Scan The World" is an open-source community effort; interesting items around you can be contributed to the cause by emailing stw@myminifactory.com to learn how to help.
