Princess Bed (3d printable)
thingiverse
The original thing is made for a laser cutter, so I came up with three alternatives that can be printed without support and glued together. You're encouraged to remove any letter from the center of the head board - I removed a V. Version two now includes engravings on all surfaces plus OpenSCAD source files. The new version works with the customizer because I combined the OpenSCAD source files into one file. To make it work, I downloaded the SVG and opened it in Inkscape, selected each object, and exported the path to an OpenSCAD source file using the Inkscape to OpenSCAD plugin. Then, I used OpenSCAD to reassemble the bed from five parts and saved it as a single STL file. After that, I loaded the STL file into netfabb Basic, sliced along the z-axis, cut the bottom in half at 1.5mm thick for both, and rotated 180 degrees on the y-axis. Next, I cut the top at the x=0 plane, rotated each part to print without support, saved them as separate STL files. Next, I made a new project in FreeCAD and loaded all three STL files into it. Then I used Inkscape again to draw an artistic V and exported its path to an OpenSCAD script. The "V.stl" file was loaded back into FreeCAD, the Head board object was converted to a solid, and then the V was subtracted from the center of the headboard. This new STL file is now ready to slice and print. Now included with Version two are all source files plus my print plate with a V cut out of the headboard.
