Prince Philippe of Belgium, Count of Flanders (24 March 1837 – 17 November 1905), is a significant figure in Belgian history. He was the third child born to Leopold I, King of the Belgians, and his wife Louise d'Orléans (1812–1850). Born at the Château de Laeken near Brussels, Belgium. As a young man, Philippe was created Count of Flanders on 14 December 1840. On his 18th birthday in 1855, he received the Grand Cordon of the Order of Leopold. This marked an important milestone in his life and career. Prince Philippe became heir presumptive to the Belgian throne in 1869 following the death of his nephew. He held this position until his own passing in 1905. In 1866, Prince Philippe declined the opportunity to become the new Romanian sovereign after Alexandru Ioan Cuza's abdication. The throne was later accepted by Carol I. For more updates on historical figures like Prince Philippe, follow me on Twitter at @GeoffreyMarchal.
