Prince Philippe of Belgium, Count of Flanders (24 March 1837 – 17 November 1905). Musée royal de l’armée et de l’histoire militaire (Brussels, Belgium). Made with ReMake and ReCap from AutoDesk. He was born a prince, the third son but second to survive of Leopold I, King of the Belgians, and his wife Louise d'Orléans. He took his first breath at the Château de Laeken, just outside Brussels, Belgium. Count of Flanders is what he became on 14 December 1840. Eighteen years later, in 1855, he received a prestigious honor - the Grand Cordon of the Order of Leopold. Prince Philippe was next in line for the Belgian throne from 1869 until his own death in 1905. That's when his nephew passed away. In 1866, Prince of Romania Alexandru Ioan Cuza stepped down. When asked to take over as new Romanian king, he politely declined. Carol I eventually accepted the crown.
