Prescription Glasses

My glasses broke, so instead of being a nerd who tapes them up, I chose to become an UltraNerd by 3D printing a brand new set of frames! These unique glasses are the classic horn-rimmed style that matches my prescription FatHead brand glasses (it seems I have a big head - how fitting!). You can see the detailed instructions on how I accomplished this with OpenSCAD. The Process I snapped a picture of one lens frame from my broken glasses. Next, I utilized an image processing program (Preview on my Mac) to scale down the image to 128 pixels wide and save it as a .png file. Then, I imported the image into OpenSCAD using the surface function and employed the constructive solid geometry features of OpenSCAD to outline the frame's shape, tidy it up, and mirror it. After that, I stretched the frame upward and used two cylinders to carve it so that the goggles-style tapers were formed. Now, I'm working on creating an even more dramatic pair of glasses next.
