This model originates from a scan accessible via http://hampson.cast.uark.edu/. The Arkansas museum has digitized their vast collection of prehistoric Native American pottery and made these scans freely downloadable. The scans are remarkably detailed, but unfortunately, in their unprocessed form, they're not printable due to the scanner's limitations. The scanner can only capture the exterior of the vessel, resulting in a non-manifold surface that typically cannot be printed. I imported the original scan into 3Dcoat, solidified the model, and used the voxel editor to carve out the interior. Consequently, anyone utilizing this model for scholarly research must bear in mind that while the exterior is based on the scan, the interior is entirely my own creation and does not reflect the actual artifact's true form. This topic and many others related to 3D printing were discussed in detail on the 3D Printing Today podcast, available on iTunes, Stitcher radio, or directly from the source at http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/.
