Preheater cement
grabcad
A modern system's foundation lies in the suspension preheater. In a vertical duct, dry powdered rawmix is introduced into hot kiln exhaust gas, where upward gas velocity lifts it "in suspension" within the gas due to sufficient velocity. The heat exchange occurs rapidly across the vast surface area of individual mineral particles, reaching equilibrium temperature for both gas and rawmix. A cyclone separates solids and gas; this process is repeated multiple times (3-6) in a tower by stacking riser ducts and cyclones. This captures most of the kiln exhaust gas heat while heating rawmix to calcination temperature, with any leftover heat used for rawmill heating.
