Precious Plastic Small-scale extrusion screw for plastics recycling
thingiverse
Precious Plastic is a remarkable open-source initiative that aims to make compact plastic-recycling machines widely available to individuals worldwide. To discover more about it, visit PreciousPlastic.com for detailed information. This extrusion screw is specially designed for extruding plastic and features an expanding inner thread that applies pressure on the melting plastic, resulting in higher detail production. Typically, extrusion screws are strictly industrial-grade, extremely large, hard to source, and very expensive. However, Precious Plastic has created a version specifically suited for home-scale extrusion, but unfortunately, they only shared the file as an STP and IGS format, not STL. Therefore, I converted it to STL and made it available here. To function properly, this part must be made of metal, not plastic. I'm sharing it because I suspect that this part could potentially be printed in PLA and then cast in Aluminum using lost-PLA casting technique. If so, it will make a very challenging-to-source part much more accessible. It can also be CNC milled on a lathe. Feel free to experiment!
