The remnants of a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine still lie in the P47-D crash site at Weymouth Bay, Dorset. The dramatic incident unfolded on May 7th, 1944, when the pilot made a daring escape by parachuting to safety and was subsequently plucked from the water by HM Trawler Northern Gift's skilled crew.
