myminifactory
The relief adorns the exterior of the Prato Cathedral, a prominent Roman Catholic church located in Prato, Tuscany, Central Italy. This seat of power has been held by the Bishop of Prato since 1954, previously serving as the Diocese of Pistoia and Prato's cathedral from 1653. Dedicated to Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr, this historic house of worship dates back to the 10th century. Constructed in several stages during the Romanesque era, it showcases exceptional architecture. The church boasts an impressive collection of art pieces, including exquisite sculptures that are sure to captivate visitors. In the early 15th century, a stunning International Gothic-style façade was added to the existing structure, creating a striking visual contrast between old and new. A narthex or corridor connects the two facades, leading to the external pulpit designed by Michelozzo and beautifully decorated by Donatello between 1428 and 1438. The seven original parapet reliefs were relocated in 1967 to Prato's cathedral museum, where they remain on display today.
