Praise the Sun ---- Solaire of Astora Dark Souls
thingiverse
I'm currently working on a 4-hour quick sketch in Zbrush that's ideally suited for FDM printing. Unfortunately, my printers are all down at the moment, so I haven't had a chance to test it yet. To maintain sculpture details, all files I've uploaded are high-poly models, which can be quite large. If you're using a metered network service, please keep an eye on your file sizes. According to my experience, parts other than the "scarf" should print fine without supports in PLA, provided your printer has good cooling. However, since I haven't tested it yet, I strongly recommend ticking the support option. Brims are essential for most parts of this model. Since all connectors are created using Boolean functions with some quick smoothing in Zbrush, sanding is necessary to get them to fit together properly. For those who don't want to spend time sanding, I've uploaded an AIO file, but be aware that removing supports can be a real pain. Please feel free to report any bugs you encounter, and I'll do my best to improve the model. I've also uploaded a full-color version on Shapeways, which is awaiting approval. Once it's cleared, I'll share a link here for those who don't want to color it themselves. As of December 14th, 2017, I've fixed the connector size and enlarged the model ten times during reformatting. I'm now starting to do some test prints with my newly repaired printer, so far everything seems fine. On December 17th, 2017, I finished my first phase printing test, and most parts seem to be working well. I've also uploaded a new AIO version that includes menu support for the sheath, as Cura (3.1) was having trouble generating supports for it. As of January 4th, 2018, I changed the orientation of the "Shield" and "Body" parts since the old version was hard to print with an FDM printer. However, this new orientation requires more bed adhesion effort due to the tiny surface touches on the build plate. For delta printers, it might be easier, but for Cartesian printers, a large brim width and Z lift during retraction would be necessary. I've done some test prints with both my Tevo Tarantula and Anycubic Kossel printers, and the AIO version is much easier to print than I thought. However, it can be a headache for coloring, and sometimes supports cause problems like warping or crushing on the nozzle and other parts.
