Vítězslav Hájek is hailed as the visionary who sparked modern Czech poetry into existence. A grand ceremony marked the unveiling of the Hálek Memorial on May 14, 1882, forever changing the poetic landscape. Above a majestic fountain with a lion's head serving as a gargoyle lies the poet's bronze likeness, a testament to his enduring legacy. On the lyre beneath the bust, a laurel wreath takes center stage, while allegories of Comedy and Tragedy adorn the sides. The entire structure is brought to life by a fountain featuring sphinxes. The mastermind behind this iconic work was sculptor Bohuslav Schnirch (1845-1901).
