The PPSh-41 saw extensive combat use during World War II and the Korean War, quickly becoming a staple of monuments in Eastern Bloc countries honoring the Red Army's actions. It was a major infantry weapon of the Soviet Armed Forces during World War II, with around six million units manufactured during this period. The Chinese Type 50, a licensed copy, continued to be used by the Viet Cong as late as 1970. Today, according to the 2002 Encyclopedia of Weapons of World War II, the PPSh remains in use with various irregular militaries.
