Powder Funnel (5.56/.22-250)
thingiverse
Just getting into reloading! It seems to be essential for pushing beyond half MOA and is significantly cheaper to shoot my precision rifle's caliber: .22-250 Remington, if using reloads. I'm glad to see some reloading stuff on Thingiverse already, but I was surprised that there was no powder funnel. The "universal" one that came with my RCBS Rock Chucker kit has too much slop to get all the powder in the case when used with haste (who doesn't want to reload faster). It looks like it would work great for .30 cal, but not so well for my less common cartridge. Well, time to design a better suited one while eating pizza bagels before getting back to researchy stuff. This funnel is designed to attach to the neck of either a 5.56/.223 or .22-250 Remington case. With its FDM compatible foot on the rim of the bowl and minimalistic nozzle with chamfer, this funnel is easy and cheap to print in any material, AND is still smooth to use despite its tight tolerances. It's the last 3D printed powder funnel you'll ever need. Download and Make to improve reloading efficiency today! Note: The "common cartridge" (.223 and .308 dia) version will be coming soon. But I currently don't reload any .30 cal, so don't hold your breath. Also, I have included images of my parameter names at the end in case someone proficient in OpenSCAD wants to port this to OpenSCAD so we can have a Customizer powder funnel. Changelog: V1.1: Set neckThickness = 0.8 mm instead of the actual 0.3-0.4 to help with fitting too tightly. Print Settings Printer: FFCreat0r Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.15 mm Infill: 10% Notes: NO RAFTS! Thanks to the FDM foot. Print such that the giant rim on the top is stuck to your print bed. I printed in RCBS green to match my RCBS products! But Dillon blue or Lee/Hornady red is cool too. 10% 2 shells I recommend a finer resolution like 150 micron for ultimate performance, but I'll probably bump it up to 200 micron (0.2mm) since this is just a prototype. Alternatively, print at 300 micron, but in ABS so you can do an acetone bath.... Don't forget to scale by 3-5% for ABS! Post-Printing Rip it off the bed (after cooling if ABS) and you're done!!!!11 It shouldn't require any fitting, but if it does, I'd try heating up a case a little bit and jamming it in there, just not enough to ruin the lip at the base of the bowl. Definitely avoid rotary power tools. How I Designed This I was cooking pizza bagels after a reloading study break and thought hmm I should make a better funnel before they're done cooking in the oven. Sounds simple and quick enough. Required neck measurements of 5.56 case and .22-250 case. Here I am an hour later... but cool I (we) have a better funnel, work can wait till tomorrow, it's spring break :P
