I have used a pour over Melitta coffee cone for decades. I use generic drip filters instead of the Melitta cone filters, which do not fit that well. After buying some new 18 oz. mugs, the old filter cones would not work because the base was too small. So I designed these for wider mugs and to be more compatible with generic drip filters.

I originally had a single .stl file with the ridge on the bottom to keep the cone from sliding off the mug. But I could not get it to print to my liking using supports. I wanted to bottom to be as smooth as possible to avoid as much contamination as possible. So, I split the deisgn inot two pieces. You can use the cone without the added ring to prevent slipping if you are careful. Or you can try the two add on bottom rings to see which one you prefer. The one with the notch lines up with the cone's handle, and will slide up and down down if you want to add an extra mm of exposed lip.

I used Polymaker PETg .3mm resolution 25% infill (bicubic) on a Prusa Mk3 3s. PETg is generally safe. PLA would work as well. I would not use ABS. Keep the cone clean by rinsing after use. I would imagine it could withstand the upper rack in a dishwasher, but I have not tried it. It will probably hold up better with hand washing. There are products to disinfect such as the spray for CPAP machines if you are worried about pathogens. The PETg or PLA filaments are okay, but the printing layers can accumulate pathogens because of gaps between layers. Washing in soap and water should be okay. Use at your own risk. I am not a health expert.

NOTE ON DRAIN HOLE: The 3mm drain hole is approximately the same as a Melitta drain hole. It is the proper size to allow the coffee to brew properly. There are other cones on Amazon that have 3 or 4 drain holes. They drain too quickly, making the coffee either too weak, or requiring more grounds to get flavor.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

I3 MK3S

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

.3mm

Infill:

25%

Filament: polymaker PETg

gray
Category: Kitchen & Dining
