Poulnabrone Dolmen, The Burren, Clare, Ireland
sketchfab
The Poulnabrone portal tomb is Ireland's most iconic and photographed 'dolmen', with roots dating back to the Neolithic Period. It likely stood for roughly 600 years before it was abandoned. In the mid-1980s, Ann Lynch conducted an excavation of the chamber after a significant crack in one of its portal stones posed a serious threat to the tomb's stability. Inside, she discovered the remains of approximately 22 adults and 6 children in a jumbled state. Rather than interring complete bodies within the tomb, it appears that the bones were gathered up and carefully placed between the cracks in the bedrock and inside the chamber spaces.
