Potterish Magic Wands
thingiverse
I am using these magical wands to defend against some dark arts! Made from oak wood and standing 11 3/4 inches tall, they feature cores of Hagrid's impressive beard. Created with Hatchbox Wood PLA Filament, they were extremely easy to sand and paint after printing. To achieve a grand size, scale and rotate the print settings so that they match your printer bed's maximum diagonal dimension. With this approach, you will end up with beautiful big wands. Printer Settings I am using my trusty MakerBot for these magical wands. Here are the specifics: Printers used: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts and supports play a significant role in these wands, which is why I chose to include both of them. Resolution, however, had to be compromised to ensure quality printing. The resolution setting was set to low to prevent any unnecessary detail from being printed. As for the infill, 30% seemed like a reasonable figure to ensure sufficient strength and structural integrity. Post-Printing Once I had finished printing these magical wands, it was time to work on their appearance. After sanded the prints to create a smooth surface, they were then painted with acrylic. Some more sanding helped to create an excellent finish that added texture. For the distressed look, it was simply a matter of giving them another once-over before presenting my new magical wands for battle against dark arts.
