Pothos
myminifactory
This ancient statue depicts Pothos, one of Aphrodite's erotes and brother to Himeros and Eros. In some mythological accounts, Pothos is described as the son of Eros or an independent aspect of him. However, others claim he is the offspring of Zephyrus and Iris. As part of Aphrodite's retinue, Pothos carried a vine, symbolizing his connection to wine or Dionysus. He embodies longing or yearning. A notable sculpture in the temple of Aphrodite at Megara features Pothos alongside Eros and Himeros, attributed to Scopas. The name Pothos is also associated with the white Asphodelus Albus flower, commonly used at funerals according to Arthur Hort's translation of Theophrastus.
