Japanese artisans skillfully crafted a traditional round su-ware pot with a narrow neck that gradually widens into a plain lip. The pilgrim flask-like shape is slightly rounded, giving it a distinctive appearance. Two flattened pellets of clay are pressed onto the shoulder at either side of the mouth, creating a unique texture. The markings on this piece resemble those found on turned objects, adding to its charm. Gray in color with numerous imperfections visible in the clay, the pot displays a beige tone and is partially covered in a light orangish coating. Penn Museum Object Number: 13133
