Portrait of Urbino
myminifactory
In Russia resides the so-called "Princess of Urbino", originally carved in limestone but this particular one is a cast, which may account for some of its idiosyncrasies when compared to the marble busts. It looks lovely in its details, particularly the borders of the bodice and bundling of the hair, and certainly evokes the style of Desiderio da Settignano, although it was not carved directly by him. It has recently been attributed more plausibly to one of his associates, Pasquino da Montepulciano, or to the young Verrocchio himself.
