Titian Vecelli, also known as Titian, was an Italian painter and the most prominent figure in 16th-century Venetian art. Born in Pieve di Cadore near Belluno in the Veneto region of the Republic of Venice around 1488 or 1490, he was often referred to by his contemporaries as "The Sun Among Small Stars," a phrase reminiscent of Dante's Paradiso. Titian was renowned for his exceptional versatility, equally skilled at creating captivating portraits, breathtaking landscapes, and mythological and religious paintings. His innovative approach to color application had a profound impact not only on Italian Renaissance painters but also on future generations of Western artists.
